The highlight of the first Istana Open House of the year is the I’mable Gift Market, which aims to promote artworks and artisanal products by talented people with disabilities. You will be able to shop for a myriad of items such as homeware, jewelry, notebooks, paintings, and leather products at this edition of the I’mable Gift Market.

Kick of the year of rat by learning more about rats and their rodent relatives at the Wildlife Reserves of Singapore awareness booth. You can interact with two species of rodents—the Dumbo Rats and Guinea Pigs—play a mini-game and craft rat noses with recycled red packets.

Additionally, there will be performances by buskers, traditional Chinese performances like Lion Dance and Chinese drums, Nature Guided Walks, and guided tours of the main building. There will also be food trucks where you can feast on Thai fusion food and burgers.

Esplanade’s annual Chinese Festival of Arts, Huayi 2020 is here to usher in the year of the rat with a medley of programs by Chinese artists from Singapore and beyond who will be showcasing their wit, imagination and curiosity (which are words often used to describe the rat)!

Alongside theatre, music and dance performances, you can also look forward to an array of kids-friendly storytelling sessions, workshops and activities, such as Traditional Paper Making, Zodiac Bodypainting, Rooftop Reads and Acting Workshop!

5. Usher in a Sparktacular Chinese New Year at Spring Surprise!

You can stock up on goodies at the Festive Bazaar and immerse yourself in a variety of performances, featuring traditional Chinese instruments among others. Catch the tale of The Zodiac Race through a Shadow Puppet Performance and watch the Story of Nian come to life with the use of puppetry, music and drama!
