Coastal Playgrove is a new AND free play area at East Coast Park, taking over the old Big Splash venue. It looks like an absolute beast with a vertical challenge, water play area, sand play and more! There are also dining options in the area for a perfect family fun day out too!

If you like an alternative, you may also wish to drop by the Marine Cove Children's Playground at East Coast Park Area C. You can easily cycle between the 2 playgrounds, and if you need, here's a list of bicycle rentals available at the park.

*Updates as at Jan 2022: the waterplay area has reopened.

Vertical Challenge

Suitable for kids aged 13 years and above, the Vertical Challenge stand at 16m tall and is a 4 storey high climbing structure with slides from the 3rd and 4th floor! You can choose the safer route of walking up the slope, or the more adventurous route of climbing up the rope structure!

Play activities in the Vertical Challenge include stepping pods, hammocks, hoop maze, zig-zag bridge, ball step traverse, wobble link, grip wall, wave traverse, and disc swings.

From the top, you will have an unobstructed view of the coast and out into the sea! Or you may simply hope on the metal slides from the 3rd and 4th storey! The height of these slides (7.3m and 11.9m tall) will challenge those at the Admiralty Park Playground!

We recommend not coming in the afternoons as the metallic slides can be hot.

We foresee lots of screaming kids and families climbing up and sliding down!

Water Play Area

Remember to bring extra clothing or even swim attire! At Coastal PlayGrove, you will also find the Water Play Area for families to engage in water play and to cool down from the heat too. The water is too shallow for swimming but kids will have a great time splashing around in the water!

The water play area features a wading pool and jets of water with illumination at night in various colours. It looks similar to the Clusia Cove at Jurong Lake Garden, but smaller.

There is a washroom nearby for kids to change and wash up too!

Other Play Equipment

Interwoven into the landscape is a nature playgarden with several themed sections that encourage children to interact and play in nature. It is designed for ages 3 to 12, with three themed sections. There's a bamboo tunnel, play elements that includes a teepee (think camping at East Coast Park) and a sand pit, with a balancing board as a play element.

Next to the nature playgarden is NParks’ first outdoor classroom by the sea. Designed for pre-schoolers, it is equipped with a chalkboard, surrounded by edible plant species and strategically located for a closer view of the sea.

The entire area is equipped with something for everyone! From the young ones, to the young at heart!

Dining Options

Coastal PlayGrove also features new recreational and dining options for park visitors. These include Once Upon a Time by The Tiara Society, Food Splash, Oldtown White Coffee and Burger King.

With the dining options, families now have the choice of heading down to Marine Cove or to Coastal PlayGrove for their family day out and to spend the entire day along East Coast Park!

Future Plans For East Coast Park

NParks will also be building a new nature trail along East Coast Park to connect existing and upcoming therapeutic gardens, nature playgardens and forest patches.

Coastal PlayGrove and the upcoming nature trail will offer more diverse recreational opportunities at East Coast Park, ranging from active play to tranquil nature-based interactions for families and the general public. This will help to redistribute crowds across Singapore’s largest park.

What do you think of this new playground? Has it become one of your top 10 outdoor play venue yet - or tell us if you have your own favourite!
