2 Parts To The Park

The park is divided into 2 sections, Pond Gardens and River Plains, divided by Marymount Road. People will normally choose to visit either section of the park. Let's take a look at what's there to do!

Pond Garden

Pond Garden, the section of the park nearer to Upper Thomson Road, is the quieter of the 2 sections and is where you will find the Water Playground and Adventure Playground. Away from the playgrounds, you may also head over to the steams and ponds to spot wildlife too! When it is time for a meal, choose to have a picnic or head over to Grub to grab a bite!

Venue: Opposite Blk 223, Ang Mo Kio Street 22
Open
: Weekends and PH
Time: 8am - 11am and 4pm - 8pm

Unlike the usual water play venues with big buckets of water and water jets, the Water Playground at the park is "calmer" and the water flows at ground level for kids to run and splash in. The water that flows through the playground comes from the Kallang River and Landscape Pond, not before it is filtered through layers of substrates and gone through UV treatment.

Children can control the flow of the water through water gates and observe the water as it flows down the slope.

The newest of the playgrounds, the Adventure Playground was reopened in 2019 with it's ship-themed structure. It is a sand-based playground with lots of climbing elements, including a rope structure and a climbing wall. The playground also includes a soft-mat toddler section for the younger ones too.

Grub

Venue510, Ang Mo Kio Ave 1
Open: Mon - Fri (11am - 10pm), Sat, Sun & PH (9am - 10pm)

Located within the park and known for it's burgers is Grub, a fun bistro that sits within the tranquility of the park. With outdoor seating available, its a great spot for families to enjoy a meal by the park and allowing the kids to run around too.

River Plains

The busier of the 2 sections, River Plains is usually full of joggers, cyclists and people walking their dogs - the dog runs are the reason for the many dog owners. Here, you can even walk down the footpaths into the meandering river and even do some longkang fishing too!

The section includes the Inclusive Playground, Dog Run, and also most of the event areas where many performances used to be held (pre-COVID). Apart from McDonald's, you will find a number of cafes and restaurants that are family-friendly (and pet-friendly) too.

*The easiest way to know which section you are in - the one with McDonald's is River Plains.

Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Inclusive Playground

The inclusive playground is an all-access play venue for children of different abilities. You will find a wheelchair-accessible merry-go-round and a wheelchair swing too. The playground consist of 2 sections, a sand play section and a soft-mat area.

At the sand play, you will find climbing nets and even an interesting digger tool for kids to dig into the sand, just like a mechanical digger machine. The matted area consist of the usual slides, swings and even musical play equipment - but what's interesting is the scavenger hunt element where you search for designs imprinted on the play equipment - a great parent/child bonding activity!

If you are looking for inclusive playgrounds, you may check out our list of inclusive playgrounds in Singapore here.

The Dog Runs

Dog Runs are venues that allow dogs to run around unleashed. There are 2 dog runs in the park with handy water points for filling up the water dishes to hydrate the furry friends! For families, it is common to see little ones around the dog runs to steal a peek at the dogs and the more adventurous ones may even venture in.

*We do advise caution as some of the dogs may get excited running around and knock over the younger ones. You may also wish to note that the lights at the dog runs are switched off at 10.30pm daily.

What To Bring Along?

We do advise that parents bring along sunscreen or something to shade the kids, insect repellent will also be useful. If you are planning to head to any of the playgrounds, do remember to bring a change of clothes (both for the water and for the sand). As always, water bottles and wet wipes are essentials that we should always have with us too!

That's it - what do you think of Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park? Do you find it kids-friendly or do you have somewhere else in mind to share? Head over to our socials and share with our community of young parents too!
