PLAYtime! is an exciting theatre series by the Esplanade for children aged 3 to 6 and is designed to spark your child's creativity and encourage conversations and learning through the performing arts. Themes of social and emotional development are central to PLAYtime! 2023, helping children to explore questions such as "Who am I?", "What makes me special?", and "Why do I feel this way?".
Encouraging Meaningful Conversation
The PLAYtime! productions are child-centric, taking into account the perspectives, joys, and anxieties of young children. The productions aim to provide families with opportunities to be open about their feelings and to find conversation starters through these stories. You can expect lots of movement, interaction, and parent-child bonding moments in the performance.

Us

Peek into the lives of two best friends as their world is turned upside down when another friend wants to play too. Through movement, music and fun, Us explores loneliness, understanding, empathy and love. Discover the importance of friends and how simple acts of kindness can change the world.
A PLAYtime! favourite, this text-and-music-based performance shares how we can be better friends with one another through acts of kindness and generosity. There will be some moments during the performance where children can choose to participate by moving and singing along with the performers.
Note that audiences will be seated on the floor and tickets are required for everyone, including infant-in-arms.
Just As I Am

Z and B are quite alike, but Z wonders why he can't be perfect while B is confident about who she is. Journey with Z and B in a theatrical dance performance and discover the joys of celebrating and loving all the wonderfully special parts of your unique selves.
This dance performance may include the occasional use of text. There will also be move-along moments which children can choose to participate in, with the support of their accompanying adults.

A Prince, An Explorer and A Girl - The Story of Batu Bulat

Once upon a time, a prince, an explorer and a girl lived on the idyllic island of Batu Bulat. Whilst each of them led their own exciting life, which at first glance seemed as different as night and day, they soon found out that they were more similar than they were different.
Join the islanders as they encounter an adventure together which takes them on different paths but ultimately lead them to understanding what empathy is and that there is always more than one perspective to any story.
This is a text-based performance that requires children and their adults to figure out what really happened at Batu Bulat by watching and listening closely to each character's story. Children will be invited to express their opinions and thoughts as part of the performance. It is an excellent opportunity to introduce the idea of putting oneself in someone else’s position and feeling what they are feeling to build respectful and caring relationships.
