Explore Kampong Gelam virtually, seek out objects and win prizes like staycation and shopping vouchers.

Venue: Kampong Gelam
Date: 12 Mar - 2 Apr 2022

This March, soak in Kampong Gelam's rich heritage while completing a series of “phygital” tasks with the National Heritage Board’s (NHB) Virtual Kampong Gelam x Heritage Hunter Bingo. As an added bonus, participants will stand to win attractive prizes.

Following the success of Heritage Hunter in 2021, National Heritage Board brought back the game this year for a second edition. Virtual Kampong Gelam x Heritage Hunter Bingo is the second segment of the current edition of Heritage Hunter.

How to Play

Participants of the Heritage Hunter Bingo will take to the streets of Kampong Gelam to search for a series of interactive points scattered around significant and interesting sites in order to complete a “bingo” style grid.

Using their smartphones, participants will be tasked to scan objects and architectural features using real-time image recognition, which will allow them to interact with historical characters in augmented reality (AR), enjoy storytelling videos, and discover lesser-known nuggets of information about the precinct.

Explore Virtual Kampong Glam

Virtual Kampong Glam is NHB’s very first “digital twin” of a heritage precinct that participants can use to plan their routes and strategise their hunts. Hotspots peppered around the digital district will allow users to access information, discover fun facts and even play mini-games.

Virtual Kampong Gelam also includes a full digital re-creation of the Malay Heritage Centre’s (MHC) Cerita exhibition, which enables users to interact with the artefacts on display. For an even more personalised experience, users can create their own avatars, fashioned out of MHC’s resident cats!

Virtual Kampong Gelam was developed in collaboration with local multimedia company REVEZ Motion as part of the Infocomm Media Development Authority’s (IMDA) National Innovation Challenge. It is part of NHB’s efforts to improve access to heritage content and to encourage new ways of engaging with heritage through digitalisation.

The Virtual Kampong Gelam “digital twin” will continue to be available until 10 April 2022.

Claim Rewards

Participants in Virtual Kampong Gelam x Heritage Hunter Bingo will be able to claim rewards for each activity completed, and accumulate chances to win the Ultimate Treasure Chest, which features prizes like a 2 day/1 night staycation at a heritage hotel, a heritage experience workshop, a tablet worth $1,999, and $300 worth of shopping vouchers. The rewards are redeemable at MHC.

NHB encourages participants to embark on their hunt from Tuesdays to Sundays as physical components of the game and prize redemption are dependent on the opening hours of participating locations and businesses, including MHC, which is closed on Mondays.
