Subscribers can have The Little Book Box delivered to their home or pick them up at lockers closer to home.
The Little Black Box is a monthly delivery subscription service by the National Library Board (NLB). Under the service, subscribers will receive a selection of 8 English children’s books (on loan), featuring a variety of fiction and non-fiction titles, and those from the Singapore collection. These books span a broad range of children's interests to widen the reading experience of young readers.
The service was piloted in November 2020 and was well-received. Following the success, NLB is expanding the service to make it available to even more subscribers.
Apart from having books delivered to their homes, subscribers can also choose to pick up their books from lockers at convenient locations nearer their homes at HDB blocks, MRT stations and bus interchanges at a lower monthly fee.
How it works
Subscribers can pick from packages depending on the age of the child (4 to 6 years; and 7 to 9 years old). Families will receive a set of eight English books, delivered in a biodegradable bag each month, and each subscription cycle is for a period of three months.
The loan term for books under this service is 21 days and the books will not fall under your usual loan quota!
The subscription fee for each cycle is $30 ($32.10 with GST) for home delivery or $24 ($25.68 with GST) for locker collection. The subscriptions will be automatically renewed at the end of each cycle.
How to subscribe
To sign up for The Little Book Box subscription service, you have to be a NLB library member and must not have any unpaid fees/charges in your membership account. Registration for Feb to Apr 2022 is currently open and you can register here.
There are a limited number of subscriptions and are available on a first-come-first-served basis.
If you would like to discontinue your subscription, you have to cancel it by the 15th day of the last month of the then current subscription period. For example, if you would like to cancel the next subscription period, which is from 1 May to 31 Jul 2022, you have to cancel your subscription by 15 Apr 2022.
