Singapore Science Festival 2020

Jointly organised by the Agency for Science, Technology & Research (A*STAR) and the Science Centre Singapore, the Singapore Science Festival (SSF) is an annual event celebrating the role that Science, Engineering, Technology and Mathematics plays in shaping our lives and sculpting our future.

This year's theme, Empowered by Science, is an invitation for budding scientists and curious minds to be inquisitive, dream big and harness the power of science to discover the limitless possibilities they can achieve.

We take a look at the activities from SSF2020 for families to enjoy! 

X-periment!

Keeping you updated on the latest innovations, developments and research in the comfort of your own home! 

Happening from 25 Jul to 8 Aug, X-periment! is a virtual carnival hosting 15 different exhibitors designed to connect the Research and Development (R&D) community from A*STAR research institutes, tertiary institutions, private and public organisations, with the public! 

Join in and get exposed to the exciting Science & Technology (S&T) innovations happening in the local scene! You will get to learn more about the exciting fields of Science, Technology, Research, Sustainability and Biomedicine! 

Science Buskers Festival

The annual Science Buskers Festival is here again! Aimed at promoting science in an engaging way, this year's competition will be done via video submissions and hosted on the SSF2020 website

Buskers Festival contestants will do a "show-and-tell" of their chosen science topic on video and this is uploaded onto the SSF2020 website. 

You will get to vote for your favourite contestant, and winners will be chosen from your votes together with the judges' score! Voting will start on 30th July on the SSF2020 website and ends on 5 August. Winners will be announced on 14 August. 

Virtual Record-Breaking Activity

Gather the family and be part of a new record in the Singapore Book of Records for the "Most number of people doing a science experiment together on an online platform". 

Simply join the live-stream from home on 8th August (Sat) from 4 pm to 5 pm. All you need to take part are milk, dishwashing soap, food colouring or ink, and cotton bud. 

David Price's Science Made Simple

Enrich your weekends with science busker extraordinaire, David Price as he shows us the secret science of water and sound as well as science in the most unexpected places!

  • Session 1: The Wonders of Water 
    • 26 July 2020 (Sun), 2 pm - 3 pm
  • Session 2: Science in unexpected places
    • 1 August 2020 (Sun), 2 pm - 3 pm
  • Session 3: Music to your ears
    • 8 August 2020 (Sun), 2 pm - 3 pm

Games and Quizzes

Have fun with the kids and challenge them to a game of trivia! Through a series of specially curated hands-on activities, you and your child will uncover the mysteries of nature, chemistry, and maths! 

Who says learning cannot be fun! 

Science Whaaaat? Videos

Go on an adventure of science-filled activities with a series of videos showcasing hands-on experiments that will make you go "Science Whaaaat?"! You will be creating foamy elephant toothpaste, an indoor hot air balloon, and so much more!
