The moon is thought to be the biggest and brightest on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month as we celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival. The festival is celebrated as a day of coming-together and for families to spend time together. Lanterns of all shapes and sizes are used to celebrate this festival, and here are a few activities that your family might be keen to attend and celebrate this wonderful festival together.

2. Celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival with Sanrio characters at VivoCity

Celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival in the company of your favourite Sanrio characters at the Garden of Lights at VivoCity! This Mid-Autumn, VivoCity is partnering with Sanrio for a takeover of its Sky Park where visitors will be mesmerised by the beauty of larger-than-life figurines illuminating the night sky, including Hello Kitty, My Melody, Little Twin Stars, and more!

Displays will be lit up from 6.30 pm every evening, with the space open to visitors from 10 am to 10 pm daily. Shoppers can also purchase exclusive Sanrio merchandise at the pop-up located at East Court (near OWNDAYS), Level 1.

3. Wan Qing Mid-Autumn Festival Open House 2023

Discover the story and traditions behind Mid-Autumn Festival, one of the oldest cultural festivals in the world, and revel in the rich historical and cultural significance of the festival with a line-up of live performances, cultural workshops, heritage walking tours, storytelling sessions, and more during the weekend open house.

At the Wan Qing Mid-Autumn Festival 2023, SYSNMH has teamed up with various clan associations to present programmes for visitors of all ages to learn more about the dialect cultures of the Chinese community. Highlights for the Wan Qing Mid-Autumn Festival Open House include a Teochew Cultural Trail by the Teochew Poit Ip Huay Kuan, a Hokkien Song & Rhymes Workshop by Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan, and a Parent-Child Hakka Abacus Seeds Making Workshop by Nanyang Hakka Federation.

4. Wan Qing Mid-Autumn Festival - Outdoor Lantern Installation

Families will also find 2 adorable giant panda lanterns at the lawn from 29 Aug to 1 Oct 2023! Catch them in typical giant panda fashion – one sitting in a relaxed position, and the other in a stretching stance. This year’s special outdoor installation puts the spotlight on giant pandas to acknowledge past and ongoing conservation efforts, and to celebrate the reclassification of the species’ status from ‘endangered’ to ‘vulnerable’. 

5. Gateway Kids Club September Moon-themed Storytelling

Venue: Gateway Theatre Dance Studio
Dates: Every Sat at 10 am
Admission: Free

Gateway Kids Club is a free programme held at Gateway Theatre every Saturday. You can also join the Arts and Crafts session or Free Play activities after the storytelling session! Each month features a different theme, around which activities are focused. 

This September, in commemoration of the Mid-Autumn season, Gateway Kids Club will feature Moon-themed tales during its storytelling sessions. Kids can expect stories such as

  • The Suns in the Sky
  • The King who Banned the Dark
  • The Brave Girl and the Firelies
  • and more!

6. Mid-Autumn Moonlight Magic at City Square Mall

This September, City Square Mall ushers in the Mid-Autumn festival with a series of fun, engaging activities and immersive experiences! Families can expect a lineup of activities to spend quality time with our family and loved ones!

On 22 Sep, families who spend a minimum of $50 can redeem a lantern-making workshop pass that allows you to make your own carousel lantern! This lantern comes with colourful LED lights and you can even paint your very own designs on it or decorate it with provided cutouts of the moon goddess and her cute rabbit.

Families may also choose to redeem a workshop pass on 23 Sep to personalise your very own moon terrarium! Perfect for those who want to incorporate a bit of nature into their surroundings, these miniature gardens set in a glass container are great as decor.

Workshops are limited to 20 slots per session. 

7. The Race Around the Moon - Theatre Performance

Join Gateway Theatre on an unforgettable journey in the heavens, with beloved characters Chang’e, Jade Rabbit, and Wu Gang in an all-new Mid-Autumn tale - The Race Around the Moon!

Suitable for 5 to 10 years old, the performances follows our friends who have lived on the moon for years! Finally, the legendary trio are given a chance to return to earth—but there’s a catch! Only the victor of the amazing race around the moon will be granted this privilege. The three friends are bent on winning, and as they will soon find out, this race will test their wits, skills, and even the bonds of their precious friendship.

8. Mid-Autumn Family FUN with Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre and the Singapore Chinese Orchestra

Mid-Autumn Family FUN is a 3 day celebration of the Mid-Autumn festival at the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre and Singapore Conference Hall with 14 activities specially curated for families and children. The theme ‘Modern Traditions’ encourages families to celebrate Mid-Autumn traditions with a modern twist.

Expect inter-generational activities, workshops and programmes designed for families and suitable for all ages. On 29 Sep, the first 200 pax can expect free coffee & tea with traditional Mid-Autumn piglet baskets and free lanterns! Across the 3 days, families can also expect free ice-cream, kachang puteh, popcorn, candy floss, cookies and biscuits (while stocks last)!

9. Dance Performance - Moon Rabbit at Yishun Pond Park Promenade

Celebrate this Mid-Autumn Festival and experience an enchanting intergeneration performance at the Yishun Pond Park Promenade right by the Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. Inspired by rabbit myths from many lands, MOON RABBITS will enthrall you with whimsical ethics in a show all about rabbits!

Arts Fission dancers and musicians from wind/percussion group Reverberance, together with children dancers from the Young Fission Benefit and senior performers from NTUC Health Senior Activity Centre (Boon Lay) are set to offer you magical encounters of music and dance in celebrating kinship reunion of the Mid-Autumn Festival.

Come with families and friends and bring lanterns for the musical Lantern Walk through the serene water garden and pavilions at the Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.

10. Celebrate Mid-Autumn at Jurong Lake Gardens

Come admire the captivating lantern displays hand-crafted by skilled artisans from China and participate in fun activities at the Jurong Lake Gardens. As part of Light by The Lake 2023, there will be a series of performances by talented homegrown artists every Friday and Saturday, from 16 Sep to 1 Oct 2023, with curated engaging programmes and activities on weekdays.

11. Moonlight Fiesta at the Singapore River Festival

As part of the Singapore River Festival, families can celebrate this year's Mid-Autumn Festival by immersing yourself in curated family workshops like Bear Pour Keychain workshops to create your own bear figurines, Window Art workshops and even have a go at making your own lanterns at our Lantern Making workshop. 

As the evening unfolds, be captivated by the mesmerizing lantern displays and step into the enchanting lantern festival walk alongside the Singapore River. Gather your family, including the little ones, and join in the joyous stroll along the scenic Singapore River, carrying beautiful lit lanterns.

First 100 customers who sign up for the lantern walk at a registration fee will receive a goodie bag. 

12. Moon-Lit at Singapore Discovery Centre

Join the Singapore Discovery Centre on a Moon-Lit adventure as they organise a series of activities for families to have fun and to celebrate the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival! Families can go on a SingaPaw guided tour to learn more about the festival and its meaning, or go on embark on a self- guided trail to discover the significance of the moon to different cultures.

13. One Punggol Lights Up for Mid-Autumn Festival

Happening from now till 29 Sep 2023, One Punggol lights up with a Giant Lantern Display as well as family fun activities such as a Lantern Walk, crafting your own lantern workshops, and bouncy castles! Families can visit One Punggol for the various activities, including for the Light-up Ceremony on 15 Sep 2023 and for the official Mid-Autumn Festival 2023 celebrations on 29 Sep 2023 from 5 pm to 9 pm with cultural performances, lion & dragon dance and a lantern walk for families. 

14. Bounce into the Mid-Autumn Season with Exciting Happenings at Resorts World Sentosa

The Singapore Yiwei Athletic Association will be performing their first ever show since winning their world championship title, in front of the Lake of Dreams on 15 – 17 September at 6.00pm.

The Yiwei Athletic Association is a lion dance troupe that is known for consistently being the Singapore National Champion for the last decade. Their performances are full of aerobic and gymnastic feats that will impress even those who are not familiar with lion dancing. They have most recently become a World Champion at the 14th Genting World Lion Dance Competition, breaking a 13-year streak held by a Malaysian team. It has also been the Singapore National Champion for the last decade. 

Families visiting the Gourmet Park from 15 – 17 September 2023, 5.00pm – 9.00pm, will be treated to a line-up of the hottest DJs performing Mandopop remixes and mashups as well as live bands who will serenade the audience with the soulful melodies of both Mandopop classics and their unique renditions.

15. Celebrate Mid-Autumn at Chinatown

Families visiting Chinatown from 15 Sep to 14 Oct can take part in the many attractive activities lined up for the Mid-Autumn Festival! Head down to catch special performances, food stalls, vibrant lights and more! 

16. Celebrate an Abundant Mid-Autumn Festival with The Woodleigh Mall

Create joyously sweet family moments whilst celebrating Mid-Autumn festival at The Woodleigh Mall through a series of Mid-Autumn themed activities and rewards happening from 15 to 24 Sep 2023. Families can look forward to colourful light installations, an insta-worthy lantern tunnel and family-friendly workshops at the atrium as well as a Lantern Walk for charity on 23 Sep. 

17. Mid- Autumn Celebration with Aljunied GRC & Hougang

Families who visit the Mid-Autumn Celebrations at Kovan Hub will get to enjoy a display of 5 sustainability-themed art installations as well as take part in various art activities as part of the PAssionArts Festival, these include Brush lettering, Flower Clay Art, Crepe paper flower making, Chinese calligraphy, Marbling art on wooden keychains, and Digital Art. There will also be performances including Self-composed songs by songwriting workshop participants, Hand drumming, Ballet and Silat performance.

18. Mid-Autumn Celebrations Bukit Gombak

Head down to Bukit Gombak stadium to take part in the Mid-Autumn celebrations! Families can enjoy performances, including face changing, green drumming by Ukulele IG, performances by schools and live band by SIM University. There will also be art activities for families to enjoy, these include ketupat lantern making with LED lights, calligraphy and many more.

19. Live Bands and More at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park

Venue: Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park

Come and admire the Lantern Arch made of more than 300 lanterns created by schools and residents in the area through a lantern making competition. That's not all, bring your picnic mats to enjoy Live bands and stage performances under the Mid-Autumn full moon at the Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park

20. Mid-Autumn Celebrations at Downtown East with Tayo and Friends
