1. Bon Odori

In Japan, Obon is a Japanese Buddhist custom honouring the spirits of the ancestors and Bon Odori (Bon Dance) is traditionally performed during this time to show one’s appreciation for their ancestors and their sacrifices. Today, Obon is celebrated in many countries across the globe, including Argentina, United States and Malaysia.

In Malaysia, Bon Odori Festival has less to do with religious custom and is more about celebrating and appreciating Japanese culture. Traditional Japanese martial arts, musical and dance performances like the Wadaiko and Bon Odori, liven up the festival while stalls offering Japanese goodies and delicious food will give you a taste of Japan. There will also be a variety of game stalls you can try out and fireworks to feast your eyes on.

2. Johor International Kite Festival

Every year for more than 20 years now, over hundreds of kite enthusiasts gather from all around the country for the Johor International Kite Festival, whether to show off their kite flying skills or simply marvel at the showcased skills.

The festival sees a smorgasbord of kites of different shapes, sizes and colors, from traditional to animals, cartoon characters and superheroes.  

In addition to kite performances, there will also be cultural performances, public kite workshops, drawing and coloring contests for the children, as well as stalls offering food and other goods.

3. Chingay Parade
