The National Day Istana Open House will be held virtually this year, featuring an array of online programs including a tour of the lesser-known areas within the Istana, such as the well and the bunker.

The bunker, which served as an air-raid shelter in WWII, and the deep brick well, are usually not accessible to the public.

This virtual open house will be open to everyone, unlike the first virtual Istana Open House on Hari Raya Aidilfitri, which was only for selected guests.

In addition to the multimedia interactive virtual tour of the Istana by The Straits Times, you can also look forward to sneak previews of the Asian Civilisations Museum’s virtual galleries and National Day program as well as explore the National Museum’s new live interactive series, Zoom into History.

As part of the National Day celebrations, you will also be introduced to NDP2020’s “Our Heart for Singapore” project, which shares Singaporeans’ reflections, thanks, hopes, and aspirations for the nation.

The virtual Istana Open House, an hour-long event, will be hosted on President Halimah’s Facebook and Instagram. You can join in by tuning in to the live stream at 10 am on 2 Aug 2020.

Once home to Singapore’s British governors, now the office of the President of Singapore, The Istana is usually open to public five days a year. After the Chinese New Year Open House in January this year, all physical Istana Open Houses have been canceled due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
