We’ve done Chinese New Year celebrations in shopping malls in Singapore and now, it’s time to shine the spotlight on the plethora of family-friendly festive happenings in the museums and attractions around Singapore!

Get caught up in the tale of the heavenly race and feast your eyes on Dahlia Dreams. Gracing the Flower Field are giant topiary-like sculptures. Usher in good luck this Chinese New Year with a spectacular Fu medallion at the entrance of Flower Dome.

Then stroll past a landscape akin to a Chinese painting, dotted with peach blossoms, a pavilion, and diorama cut-outs of cranes and mountains. Finally, make a grand entrance through the magnificent archway placed front and center, and catch up with the rat, the first to reach the Jade Emperor by outwitting the other 11 zodiac animals. Proudly flanking the center field, two golden rats wish you a happy and prosperous new year!

As part of Spring Surprise, Watch The Story of Nian unfold through music, puppetry, and drama, and don’t miss out the sparktacular Golden Pyro Dragon Dance making its first appearance in Singapore.

You can also look forward to thrilling acrobatic stunts by a lion dance troupe, music performances by local ensembles, shadow puppet shows telling the story of the Chinese zodiac, meet-and-greet sessions with the God of Fortune, and a festive bazaar!

Discover a colourful world of Abundance In The Sea and meet eight iconic marine animals commonly associated with wealth, prosperity or even customary Lunar New Year must-haves. Among them are the mouse grouper with its beautifully striking black spots – named due to its resemblance to the mouse—and the yellow-hued pineapple fish, symbolic of wealth because of its pineapple-like appearance.

The highlight of the event and a perennial favourite every Lunar New Year, the auspicious Underwater Dragon Dance returns to bring another spellbinding one-of-a-kind performance!

Follow The Auspicious Dragon Trail as it makes its way around Universal Studios Singapore accompanied by up-tempo drum beats. Favourite characters from each themed zone will be dressed in festive outfits, ushering in the Year of the Rat.

During this period, if you who spend a minimum of S$35 in a single receipt at retail outlets, you will receive a pair of limited-edition Sesame Street Chinese New Year-themed couplets. And when you purchase your admission tickets online, you will receive Minion-themed couplets. Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall’s Wan Qing Festival of Spring 2020 has a line-up of family-friendly activities, ranging from auspicious lion and dragon dance performances to Chinese painting and drumming workshops and craft activities for your little ones!

You can also join in the Memorial Hall’s signature mass lohei, get your zodiac predictions for the new year, and immerse yourself in an evening concert of contemporary and traditional performing arts.

Additionally, there will also be an outdoor installation, Lunar Guardians, produced by Hong Kong collectible label, BigBoysToys, in collaboration with the Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall, that pays homage to the ancient Chinese art of lion dance. Featuring two lion-dance-inspired sculptures in the ‘mecha’ anime style, the installation juxtaposes tradition with modernity, encouraging conversations about the evolutions in this rapidly changing world.

The Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre has a line-up of family-friendly activities in celebration of this Chinese New Year. You can check out the Huat Huat Land that has popped up on the Roof Garden, where pineapples are larger than life and mahjong tiles are gigantic. Another event you can check out with your little ones is the Blast’20 – A Chinese New Year Concert by Reverberance retelling the tale of the Nian Beast.
